The GMHL has released its October Power Rankings, and the St. George Ravens have soared into the Top 5.
Here’s what the league had to say:
5. St. George Ravens (2-1-0, .667 PCT) – South Division
Last Season’s Final Rank: 8th
“The Ravens take an early step forward with two wins in three games. They’ve been balanced offensively (12 GF) but will want to cut down on mistakes defensively (11 GA). If St. George continues to trend upward, they could quickly outpace last year’s middle-of-the-pack finish.”
From #8 last season to a Top 5 ranking today — the Ravens are proving early that they’re a team on the rise.
The Ravens opened their season on the road with a 6–2 victory over the Niagara Predators.
The night featured plenty of firsts: Dylan Abendschon scored his first Junior goal to get the Ravens on the board, followed by Landon McDougall before the first intermission. Brady Conrad added two in the second, joined by Lucas DeCaluwe, and Dylan Dimitry capped things off in the third with his first Junior goal.
Between the pipes, Alessandro Gruosso earned his first Junior win, making it a milestone night for the squad.
The Nest came alive as the Ravens battled the Durham Roadrunners in their home opener — a thrilling 4–3 win.
Shawn Parliament opened the scoring in the first with his first as a Raven. After Durham pushed back, the Ravens took over in the third period: Captain Nathaniel Goodbrand set the tone with a huge goal, Landon McDougall tied it, and Dylan Abendschon delivered the game-winner in the dying minutes.
A big win in front of the home crowd, and the Ravens moved to 2–0.
The first road loss of the season came against the Wasaga River Dragons, but not without a fight.
Dylan Abendschon struck in the first period off a setup from Daniel Tremblay, and then again in the third with help from Shawn Parliament and Lucas DeCaluwe. Despite the effort, Wasaga pulled away with a 6–2 win.
Though the final score wasn’t in their favor, the Ravens showed grit and heart until the final whistle.
Two wins, one loss, and a Top 5 GMHL ranking to start the season — the Ravens have made it clear they’re ready to build on last year and climb even higher. With balanced offense, first-time scorers making their mark, and the Nest growing louder every game, St. George has plenty of momentum heading into October.
The Ravens now turn their focus to a busy weekend at home, beginning with our Home Opener on Friday, October 3rd against the Toronto Flyers, followed by another test on Sunday when they host the Northumberland Stars. With the Nest behind them, it’s shaping up to be an exciting weekend of hockey in St. George.
